Utagawa Yoshitsuya (1822-1866), also known as Koko Yoshitsuya and Ichieisai Yoshitsuya was a student of Kuniyoshi and, like his master, is best known for his depictions of warriors. This series called ''Kinsei Giyu Den'' (Loyal Heroes of Recent Times) illustrates samurai warriors involved in the Sakuradamon Incident, one of the major events that triggered the collapse of the Tokugawa rule.
