Considering the history of written languages throughout the world, Japan was fairly late in the game compared to other cultures. Cuneiform writing was established over 5,000 years ago by the Sumerians between 3,500-3,000 BCE while Egyptian hieroglyphics date back to 3,300 BCE. China’s logo-graphic writing system emerged on oracle bones around 1,200 BCE. The Greek alphabet was in use from around 800 BCE with the Roman alphabet following a century later....
