Tingshas are small prayer cymbals used by Tibetan Buddhist monks during ceremonial functions or meditations. Oftentimes they come in pairs, joined by a leather cord or chain, or sometimes with a horn striker. When struck they produce clear, high-pitched tones with beautiful harmonic overtones. Many tingshas are embossed with auspicious Buddhist symbols or mantras. Together with singing bowls, they are used during sound healing meditations.
