Hashiguchi Goyo is one of the most celebrated artists in the shin-hanga genre, which was based on traditional ukiyo-e styles while also incorporating European Impressionist elements. Goyo was especially noted for his depictions of beautiful women, known as bijin-ga. They are considered some of the best of the twentieth century. A perfectionist with extremely high standards, Goyo only allowed prints of superior quality to be distributed in small editions.
