The deity Ganesh has an elephant head on a human body. He is known as the “Remover of Obstacles,” which is no small feat. Imagine being able to clear the way for any of your hearts desires to manifest, or conversely, to block anything harmful. This is Ganesh’s job; his raison d’etre, the reason he is revered, honored and accepted by Hindus, Buddhists, and just about anyone else who recognizes some things are best left to faith and belief rather than science.

Astrologically, Ganesh has a birthday. It is celebrated on the fourth day of the waxing moon period between the months of August and September. This year it will occur next Wednesday, September 19th. Ganesh is not an average run-of-the-mill deity. His birthday celebration can last for ten days. Some devotees believe Ganesh becomes visible during this period, although no one has ever seen a real, live, walking elephant head on a human body during this or any other time.
