A Moment Extended
How do you define a moment in time? Is it a minute, a few minutes, an hour or more? Although the word moment is formally defined as “a brief period of time,” a brief period is at best an elusive, inexact, arbitrary measurement. Time keeps moving in precise increments imprecisely defined, meaning a moment might be a second to one person or a million years to another. However, stop time and a moment's definition becomes exact, especially when it is rendered by a gifted artist’s brushstrokes.
The 48 x 48 inch painting is a plein air masterpiece |
This week’s New Arrival features a painting by award winning plein air artist Brian Sindler. Although a plein air painting is commonly done out of doors, where it is painted is less important than the atmosphere and light it depicts. The outside world can appear ordinary or compelling depending on how the subject matter is clarified by the artist. Consider this painting. It magnifies the veil of light appearing just before the sun makes its entry or exit - stopping time - giving us an eternity to contemplate the moment it reveals.
