In ancient China there lived a famous scholar named “Lazy Yu.” Teacher to the emperor’s first born son, he earned his name by staring at rocks for hours on end. One day, Lazy Yu found the prince staring at a rock outside his studio. “What do you see?” he asked. “Just a stone,” was the reply. Yu was less lazy than patient and his response was meant to teach this virtue. “To truly see the stone, you must listen to what it has to say.”

To see past the 'stone' of this Gongshi, all one needs to do is listen..

This week’s New Arrival features a Gongshi, also known as a 'spirit stone.' Far from being an ordinary rock, it has a distinct persona shaped by eons of exposure to wind and water. Look closely; one minute you might see an outcropping or cliff, at another a beast of burden taking a break from a lifetime of servitude. It’s impossible to say what Lazy Yu would have seen in this piece, but it’s a certainty he would have listened to its voice.
