Porcelain Pixiu

Back in ancient times, there was no such thing as a home security system. There were no keypads, no electronic alarms, no trip wires or hidden security cameras, not even the clanging of an old fashioned alarm bell. There was only superstition, myth, and belief – and a series of objects, symbols really, that once displayed let people know you better not mess with their stuff.

These mythical creatures are part lion and part bird

This week’s New Arrival features porcelain sculptures depicting a pair of Pixiu, Chinese mythical creatures. The Pixiu is actually a hybrid – part lion, part bird – but it’s unusually strong powers make it unique. The Pixiu not only protects wealth, it can also make it grow; its body fattening as prosperity increases. If these Pixiu could speak, they would say: “What is worth protecting is worth growing.”
