Russian Icon necklace depicting the 'Crowning of Christ' |
This is the time of the year when Christians around the world come together to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. It matters not if you believe in Jesus or even a universal force called “God.” It only matters that you recognize each of us has an inalienable right to worship him or anyone else we choose, however we choose, as long as no one is hurt in the process. This is a right that was almost lost to a stubborn group of Christians in 17th Century Russia.
Russian Icon Necklace |
This week’s New Arrival features an antique traveling icon depicting the “Crowning of Christ.” Composed of enameled bronze and strung on silver and glass beads, it was originally worn by an “Old Believer,” a Christian who stubbornly clung to their way of worshiping Christ despite threats, persecution and harassment. Its survival is less a reminder of Christian orthodox faith than of the force and freedom we can choose to celebrate this time of the year.
