My Sun & Moon
Long ago, people believed the vena amoris – the vein of love – ran from the fourth finger of the left hand to the heart. This belief was so compelling the fourth finger became known as the ring finger; and wearing a ring on it came to symbolize a bond of love between two people. Even after medical science proved the vena amoris was a myth, people still wore a ring on their fourth finger; proving humankind, westerners in particular, are just as superstitious as scientific.

This week’s New Arrival features a ring created years ago by the late artist Lou Zeldis in Bali. Lou was fascinated with ancient charms and symbols. This particular ring features sun and moon faces on the flip sides of a reversible coin. In ancient Egypt the sun and moon were thought to be gods forming a sacred union. Although science has proven their true relationship, an old superstition suggests wearing them together on the fourth finger will create a bond even science can’t break.
