At PRIMITIVE, "authentic" means used and/or intended for use by the indigenous people
In this context you will not find things made for tourism or export, but instead, original objects and furnishings ranging in age from new to ancient, including those that are common as well as rare. Authentic does not translate into higher prices, but instead, into things that have a heart, soul and character altogether different than those made strictly for sale.
Our guiding principle in dealing with age and rarity is also simple: because something is new it is not necessarily bad, and rarity does not necessarily translate into greater value. Although age and rarity may temper price, value is a function of appreciation more than anything else. You might say, long after the price is forgotten; the value of authentic objects is derived from the appreciation of their true nature.
Authentic objects tell stories, yet these stories are not always evident. They can transcend understanding, and lie beyond the recitation of purpose and history in the realm of imagination. Each and every authentic object records its own story in an endless series of impressions, and once imagined, connects us to other people, places and times. It is in these stories a simple message is found – all cultures are the same, we just express ourselves differently. That is the true nature of authenticity.
