A Jharokha is a projecting stone window characteristic of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. In addition to enhancing the beauty of a building, they were also often designed to overlook a street, courtyard or marketplace, allowing women to view events outside without being seen themselves. They were mainly built in palaces, temples and haveli mansions. This miniature version was meant as a visual pun of sorts - it was clearly carved into the wall of a building as an architectural ornament, most likely to hold an oil lamp.
