Mark Westervelt

About the Artist

Mark Westervelt is a classically trained artist whose works have become synonymous with the ingenious use of dried paint – a medium he invented. His manipulation of this medium is unlike anything else found in contemporary art today, and has resulted in works exhibiting raw primitivism while earning him international recognition.
Each one, a painting in reverse, is subsequently cut up into segments and then applied to other surfaces such as wood panels. His unique visual language has also been called figurative abstract expressionism.
