Humans have been collecting since time immemorial. Early on, it was rocks and shells made as adornment and later used in trade as currency. As years have passed, and millennia turned, thousands of cultures have formed, carving out truly amazing visual languages, belief systems and artwork based on how they saw the world around them. Looking back at the achievements in art cross-culturally is profoundly breathtaking, and today, we continue to collect as an appreciation of this. As advanced as we have become present day, collecting ties us back to our primordial roots; it’s a piece of history, it stirs our emotions, pleases the eye, and keeps us in touch with the past as we stay sharp in the present.
